Arthritis treatment

Arthritis is a joint disorder that involves inflammation of one or more joints in the body. The most common types of arthritis are “osteoarthritis” and “rheumatoid arthritis”. The pain caused by arthritis is caused by inflammation around a joint, daily wear and tear of the joint, joint fatigue and/or damage to the joint due to disease.

Even though there are over 100 different types of arthritis, the symptoms are similar; varied levels of pain or aching, swelling of the joints, and stiffness in the joint. Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis caused by daily wear and tear on the joints, and can affect the hands, feet, back, hips and knees. Rheumatoid arthritis is the second most common and is caused by the body’s own immune system attacking body tissue. Most of the damage occurs to joint lining and cartilage, causing erosion between two opposing joints. This often occurs in joints of the fingers, wrists, elbows and knees. Though there is no cure for either type of arthritis, our Physiotherapists’ can help with pain management through proper physical exercise.

Custom made orthotics are specialized insoles or “inserts” that make your feet happy all day long by taking the pressure off them. They also help relieve your back, hip and knee pain. Our orthotics are very thin and light weight – they fit easily and discreetly into your existing shoes and provide instant relief.
